IP Ratings Explained: Is Your Camera Really Waterproof?

Understand the difference between IP65, IP66, and IP67 to choose the right protection level for your outdoor camera.

IP rating is critical for outdoor cameras. Here's what you need to know:

IP Rating Basics

The first digit (0-6) indicates dust protection, the second (0-8) indicates water protection. IP65 means fully dust-tight (6) and protected against water jets (5).

Common Ratings

IP65: Fully dust-tight, protected against low-pressure water jets. Suitable for general outdoor use.
IP66: Fully dust-tight, protected against powerful water jets. Ideal for coastal or storm-prone areas.
IP67: Fully dust-tight, protected against immersion in 1m water for 30 minutes.

Recommendation

IP65 suffices for most outdoor applications. For coastal, humid, or typhoon-prone areas, choose IP66 or higher. All anmivo outdoor cameras are IP66 certified for reliable operation in harsh environments.
